Energy Efficiency, Title 24, and CalGREEN are all key components for your building project. At PMHI we pride ourselves in considering everything when helping you build your dream home or ADU. We asked our preferred Title 24 Energy Compliance partner and Certified Energy Analyst, Dave Morgan from Red Tape Express, what an owner-builder might need to know about some of the new regulations relating to energy efficiency standards and practices.

Solar Energy

All new homes and detached ADU’s require solar PV panels unless your project is a qualifying fire rebuild or your site is completely shaded the entire year.”

HVAC

“Selecting the heating and cooling system you plan to install will have an important impact on your energy use. Ductless mini-split systems now receive special credit that make it easier to comply with energy requirements. Avoid using electric resistance heating.”

All-Electric

“New regulations make it possible to build an all-electric home with a heat pump water heater and a heat pump heating and cooling system.”

Local Codes

“Many building departments have adopted “Reach Codes” that exceed Title 24 requirements. It’s important to understand these additional requirements. Some will require homes to exceed Title 24 energy budgets, others will require new homes to be all-electric, others may require more CalGREEN measures. These local regulations will impact your options and the project cost.”

Whether it is solar, HVAC, or complying with local codes, you can count on PMHI to provide a package that fits your needs, particularly when it comes to energy efficiency.
